Sorority Easily Targeted and Attacked by Posting Meeting Updates On A Particular Website

NORTH TEXAS (KRLD) – The sorority whose North Texas members have been targeted by a sexual predator is not responding to questions about a KRLD story that finds a potential security lapse.

While police have been telling Delta Sigma Theta sorority members and alumnae not to draw attention to themselves until the serial rapist is caught, KRLD discovered a local chapter has been posting meeting information on an unprotected website.

Four women have been attacked in their homes since late 2010. The common thread, all are Black women between the ages of 50 and 60 and all are alumnae of the sorority.

The local chapter of Delta Sigma Theta has not returned a call to KRLD. The national office said only the President could answer questions and she was not available.

The attacker has managed to find detailed information on, then attack four North Texas alumnae. Police have asked members to take precautions, but the public website seems to fly in the face of this recommendation.

“We’re looking into all phases to how this person was able to come up with the information that haven’t been definitely been identified yet as far as what method this information was obtained through but we are exploring everything,” explained Plano Police Officer David Tilley.

The website provides the public with the times, dates and locations of local Delta Sigma Theta meetings.

Delta Sigma Theta sorority released this statement about the attacks.

The unsolved case has frightened sorority alumnae, who at times, find themselves looking over their shoulders in the most obscure of places, such as church.

“As I had to fill out my check for my tithe some gentleman next to me asked to use my ink pen and I happen to be using a sorority pen,” said one sorority alumna told KRLD. “I actually had to think if I wanted to give him my pen.” The woman decided to reach in her purse and find another pen.

Police in Plano, Coppell and Corinth say the case is a top priority.

The attacker has displayed bizarre behavior, in one case calling a victim to apologize. Police were able to trace the call to a convenience store and snag a surveillance camera picture. However, they have been stumped in locating the man.

Victims describe the attacker as a black man, in his late 30s to mid-40s. They say he stands between 5 feet 7 inches tall and 6 feet tall, and weighs between 250 and 300 pounds. At the time of the attacks he had a thin, well-trimmed beard.

The case has run on the television show America’s Most Wanted, which has generated a number of tips. However, none of the tips has led police to a solid lead.

Anyone with information about the cases is asked to call (972) 941-2148 or call Crime Stoppers at (877) 373-8477
